Hot Quinoa Breakfast Cereal

If you are on the go and looking for a faster recipe for a morning before a big day, hot quinoa breakfast cereal is a great option. Quinoa is a healthy alternative to typical cereal options. Most popular cereal brands utilize some form of ultra-refined grains, cereal with an ultra-refined base is typically devoid of useful nutrients your body needs to function throughout the day. Quinoa is a nutrient dense carbohydrate option and can be very beneficial for the body’s digestive system. 

In a world where it is seemingly impossible to avoid processed sugars, cinnamon plays an important role. Of the most recent studies, cinnamon has shown to decrease LDL (bad) cholesterol by 9.4 mg/dL and a decrease in triglycerides of 29.6 mg/dL. (Note that high levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides lead to type two diabetes). Studies also showed HDL (good) cholesterol increased by 1.7 mg/dL when cinnamon was consumed following meals. 


  •    1  cup  quinoa
  •    2  cups water
  •    1/2  cup apples or pears– thinly sliced
  •    1/3  cup raisins
  •    1/2  teaspoon cinnamon
  •    GFCF milk
  •    honey, stevia


  • Rinse quinoa and add to water. Bring to a boil 
  • Reduce heat; simmer for 5 minutes 
  • Add apples or pears, raisins and cinnamon
  • Simmer until water is absorbed
  • Serve with milk and sweeten to taste with honey or stevia
