Taco Seasoning

Sure you can buy taco seasoning blends from the store, but we don’t know what’s in those “proprietary blends”! Here’s a quick recipe from scratch for a versatile seasoning you can add to any meat for tacos, vegetables, or garnish guacamole!

The ingredient and flavor I really enjoy in this seasoning is cumin. It has a deep flavor that really compliments beef. You probably already guessed it, but it has several health benefits too.
Along with plenty of flavor, cumin has been linked to helping irritable bowel syndrome, cholesterol, and diabetes!

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 clove of garlic, crushed

Variations:

  • Since we can always spice things up, you can add
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Substitute 1 Tbsp chipotle powder for one of chili powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper (*Watch out! This is where the real heat comes from!)
  • 1-2 tsp garlic powder substitute for crushed garlic

Preparation:

  • After mixing the base recipe with whatever additions you’d like, it’s time to get cooking!
    If I am making tacos:
  • Chop a medium to large onion and sauté in a pan till translucent
  • Add 1 lb. ground beef to brown it, making sure to break up clumps
  • Add the seasoning
  • Add a dash or two of water
  • Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring intermittently
